Formula 1 in 2025: New Rules and Drivers
Formula 1 is constantly evolving, and the 2025 season is no exception. With several rule changes and a fresh driver line-up, it promises to be an exciting year for teams and fans alike. In this blog, we discuss the main changes and show an overview of the drivers and their new teams.
Key Rule Changes in 2025
Increased minimum weight
In 2025, the minimum weight of Formula 1 cars will be increased from 798 kg to 800 kg. This adjustment follows an increase in the minimum weight for drivers from 80 kg to 82 kg, intended to create a fairer playing field for taller and heavier drivers.
Stricter Rules of Conduct
The FIA has introduced new rules aimed at improving driver behaviour both on and off the track. Offences such as swearing, insulting gestures or criticism of the FIA can lead to severe penalties, including fines, suspensions and the loss of championship points.
Cooling vests for the hot races
From 2025, the FIA will introduce mandatory cooling vests for Formula 1 drivers in extreme heat conditions. These vests must be worn as soon as the wind chill temperature on the track exceeds 32 degrees Celsius. This helps drivers perform better and reduces the risk of overheating. Especially races like the Singapore, Bahrain and Miami Grand Prix, where temperatures are often high. With this, F1 is taking an important step towards better driver safety in hot conditions.
Fastest race lap disappears
From 2025, the extra point for the fastest race lap in Formula 1 will disappear. The FIA has decided to scrap this rule to keep the focus entirely on racing and strategy. The points system should become fairer, without drivers with a late pit stop on fresh rubber artificially taking an extra point.
