The most popular cars for private leasing in 2025
Private leasing is no longer the latest craze of a small group of pioneers. In the Netherlands, it has become a fully-fledged alternative to buying. Take a stroll through the neighbourhood now and you’ll see lease cars parked outside everywhere. And it’s not just the standard hatchbacks anymore: electric SUVs are gaining ground, but the familiar compact city cars also remain surprisingly popular. Four models really stand out this year. Here they are: the most popular private lease cars of 2025.
1) Kia EV3: electric head-turner
The Kia EV3 is the newcomer that has taken the market by storm in no time. A compact SUV that makes driving electric accessible, without instantly having to compromise on space or looks. Dealers say demand is higher than expected, and you’ll notice the same in the leasing world: this model has rapidly become one of the most popular choices. For those who are unsure whether going electric is feasible, the EV3 proves that it is. You can drive it from just €514 per month.
2) Toyota Yaris: the safe choice
Not everyone is ready to make the switch to fully electric yet. That’s where the Toyota Yaris comes in cleverly. With its hybrid drive and reputation as an indestructible workhorse, it remains a solid favourite. Many private leasers pick it because they know what to expect: low running costs, few surprises and still a modern look. Private leasing is available from just €329 per month.
3) Kia Picanto: ever-present
If you drive through the city, you can’t miss it: the Kia Picanto remains hugely popular. It has been for years, actually. It’s small, but offers more comfort than you’d expect at first glance. The price tag also makes it attractive to leasers who mostly do shorter trips. That’s why, despite all the new electric models, it still firmly holds a place in the top ranks. The monthly leasing price starts at €263 for a used one.
4) Škoda Elroq: fresh contender
The Škoda Elroq is much newer. This electric SUV has drawn a lot of curious glances in a short period of time. It combines space with a sharp price, and since leasing companies are keen to have it on the road, the terms are often notably favourable. It’s a model that challenges the established brands and shows there are interesting alternatives outside the usual names. Private lease prices start at €449 and you lease the car directly via Skoda.
Making choices
Some go for the futuristic EV3, others prefer the trusted Yaris, while the Picanto is practical and affordable. The Elroq adds a fresh contender to the mix. It goes to show how broad the private leasing market has become in 2025.
