With these 8 karting tips, you’re guaranteed to get faster on the track!

Karting isn’t just a fun sport; it’s also a battle for the fastest lap time (especially during qualifying). Want to win every kart race? These 8 tips will help you get there!

1. Perfect racing posture for optimal control

Your seating position largely determines how well you control the kart. Sit with your back straight against the seat and keep your hands firm but relaxed on the steering wheel. This gives you maximum control of the kart and helps with quick steering responses. If your karting track offers special seats, be sure to try them. You’ll sit more tightly in the kart and have better control.

2. Study the ideal racing line in advance

The fastest route on the circuit isn’t always the shortest. Try to drive smooth lines: approach corners wide, cut in sharply, and finish wide again. This minimises loss of speed and creates a fluid driving style.

3. Brake at the right moment

Braking too late causes sliding and bouncing, while braking too early costs you speed. The golden rule: brake hard before the corner when needed, then release the brake and steer in. This way you maintain maximum grip and speed coming out of the corner.

4. Accelerate smoothly out of corners

Don’t stamp on the accelerator as soon as you leave the corner. Press the throttle gently and let your wheels keep grip, so you accelerate as efficiently as possible without spinning the tyres.

5. Look ahead and anticipate

Many beginners only look directly in front of their kart, but that’s not ideal. For a quick lap, always look ahead to the apex or kerbs.

6. Use your weight to your advantage

Your body position can give you that little bit of extra speed. Lean slightly forward on the straights to cut down on resistance and subtly shift your weight in the bends to improve grip.

7. Use the full track

Many kart circuits in the Netherlands have blocks of grass at the edge. Use them cleverly: the wider you take the corner, the more speed you can carry with you.

8: Follow the experienced drivers

Look out for people in race suits. They’re usually experienced and know what they’re doing. Try to drive the same racing line as them during the session and you’ll naturally get much faster.
