Going on holiday by car?

We have all already forgotten about the summer holidays and the weeks seem to fly by. A good sign for winter sports enthusiasts, as this holiday is fast approaching. Before you can actually go on holiday, you are often busy with all sorts of things. Is the car winter or summer proof? Haven’t I forgotten what to bring and does everything actually fit in the car? If all this is in order, there is often still a long way to go. We would like to give you some tips to make the journey as smooth as possible.

Create extra space

Taking everything with you is always a challenge. A good solution to this is to buy a quality roof rack and roof box once. Whenever possible, many people choose the largest roof box of 680 litres, for example the Farad Marlin. If you want to buy a slightly smaller model, you could take a look at the Farad N6. Using a roofbox correctly is not so obvious, so we give some tips:

  • Check that the roofbox is fastened properly
  • Only put light items in the roofbox, this keeps the car steerable
  • Do not overload the roofbox
  • Never put expensive items in your roofbox
  • Also consider the maximum roof load of your car

Make sure the children have fun

A long drive is not only annoying for you, but also for the children. Make sure they are well entertained. Many parents invest in a DVD screen that you can hang on the headrest. The kids will then soon spend a few hours enjoying a fun Disney film. When they have finished watching it, you can easily fill the remaining hours with an iPad. Just make sure you have downloaded enough apps before you travel. On the road, there is often poor 4G connectivity and no wifi. Downloading an app is then impossible.

Go to the garage for a “holiday check”

We all recognise the following image: you drive your car to your destination, take a look out of the window on the hard shoulder to the right, Yes, there’s another one with car trouble. Of course, this is the last thing you want to experience during your holiday. It is no fun standing by the side of the road in summer or winter temperatures, waiting for the ANWB’s ministering angel. It always seems to happen to others. However, even your car can suddenly break down. So don’t take any risks and take your car to the garage before you leave to give it a holiday service. This will significantly reduce the chances of breakdowns.

If you follow all the tips above, you will be sure to be well prepared for your holiday!
