These are the 5 fastest cars in the world

Speed remains one of the most fascinating elements of automotive engineering. Every year, manufacturers try to outdo each other with higher power outputs, better aerodynamics and innovative materials. But which car can currently call itself the fastest car in the world?

1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – 531 km/h

The Jesko Absolut is built by Swedish brand Koenigsegg, which has been competing at the top of the hypercar world for years. According to the manufacturer, this version of the Jesko is optimised for minimal drag and maximum speed. With a theoretical top speed of 531 km/h, this is on paper the fastest car in the world, although an official test is yet to be conducted to definitively confirm that figure.

The Jesko features a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine delivering up to 1,600 hp. Thanks to an extremely streamlined design and ultra-light materials, the car should be able to push any speed limit.

2. SSC Tuatara – 532.93 km/h (one-way), 508.73 km/h (average)

On 10 October 2020, US manufacturer SSC made world news with the Tuatara. During a test drive on a closed road in Nevada, a top speed of 532.93 km/h was measured, averaging 508.73 km/h over two trips. Although the first attempt received much criticism, repeated attempts have since been made with independent measuring equipment.

The SSC Tuatara is equipped with a 5.9-litre twin-turbo V8 and has an output of 1750 hp. The design is entirely focused on stability at extreme speeds, making this car a serious contender for the title of fastest car in the world.

3. Hennessey Venom F5 – >500 km/h

The Venom F5 is the flagship car from Texan manufacturer Hennessey. The car is designed to break the 500 km/h barrier. According to Hennessey, the Venom F5 should even be able to exceed 510 km/h, but an official, independently measured speed has not yet been published.

With 1817 hp from a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 and ultra-low weight, this model is all about performance. Once the official speed is known, this could just become the new fastest car in the world.

4. SP Automotive Chaos – 499 km/h

The SP Chaos has been developed by Greek brand Spyros Panopoulos Automotive. With an announced top speed of 499 km/h, this hypercar is among the absolute best. The ‘Zero Gravity’ variant features a V10 engine with more than 3,000 hp. Production is extremely exclusive and still limited, but the numbers are impressive enough for a place in this list.

5. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ – 440 km/h

Bugatti first broke through the 483 km/h limit in 2019 with a modified Chiron. That version reached 490 km/h, but the production version the Super Sport 300+ is capped at 440 km/h. Still, this model remains one of the fastest ever to actually hit the road.

The famous W16 engine produces 1600 hp and provides unparalleled performance. The Super Sport 300+ is a milestone in the history of superfast cars.
