Off on a road trip together? These are the must-haves for a great journey!
The road trip holiday is back in vogue. Where it used to be seen as old-fashioned and dull, getting the car out nowadays is quite the trend. And honestly, it’s easy to see why. A road trip gives you an incredible sense of freedom – if the weather isn’t pleasant you can simply drive south to the sun, and if you’re ready for a change of scenery, you can just cruise somewhere else. Going on a road trip as a couple comes highly recommended. You really get to know each other because teamwork is essential, and you’ll have plenty of peaceful time during the journey to truly connect. Need a break from talking? Cheesy music playlists make for wonderful distractions. In short, a road trip is definitely worth doing. As a couple, you’ll have fewer things to sort out than a family, so you’ll be ready much quicker than if you were travelling with children. Wondering what you should have sorted before you leave as a couple? Read on.
Transport
First and foremost, you’ll need a car – no car, no road trip. If you don’t have your own, you could consider borrowing one from someone or use a platform like Snappcar. Buying your own car is also an option. Nowadays, it doesn’t have to be expensive and you can get a perfectly good car for little money. Take a Renault Clio used model for instance – for less than €15,000, you can buy one and before you know it you’re in the south of France. It’s also an economical car and very comfortable, with plenty of space, which is great for a road trip. But do you really need a big family car? Absolutely not.
Extra space
If you find you do need more space, you can always get a roof box. Nowadays, these are available for all types of cars, not just the big estate versions. Or you could take your own ‘home’ with you – a folding trailer or a caravan really does give you that ultimate sense of freedom. So, some extra space can easily be arranged if you need it.
Finally, it’s sensible to bring some essential emergency items, because you don’t want to think about it, but breakdowns can happen and you’ll be glad of extra water on hand. A winter road trip can be fun too, but the risk of car trouble is higher then. Make sure you have things to keep you warm if needed. But don’t let these possibilities put you off – a road trip is guaranteed to offer unforgettable experiences and a huge amount of fun. And the cost? It’s often not as much as you’d think!
